Use a Tuner, or Not?

Hi, friends.

Tuners are incredibly helpful at letting us know if our instrument is in tune or not, but should we use one with our whistle?

I talk about both the yes and the no options in the video. The question is not really, should I use a tuner, but when is using a tuner a good idea and when is it unnecessary?

Even reasonable whistles were made so that they would be in tune. If our whistle is in tune it is possible we have a dud whistle, but it is more likely the case that it is playing out of tune because of something we are doing.

Once again, learning to play well is the key to success in playing our whistles in tune.

We have also been given two built-in tuners to use. Listen to yourself as you play. As you do this you will be able to tell if you’re playing sounds OK or not.

Also, if you are playing at home, basically for yourself, then you want to develop good playing skills, but being exactly in tune is not an issue.

Let’s look together in the video at some other scenarios as to when we would want to use a tune, and when we do not.
