Learning the Hornpipe, Harvest Home (Cincinnati) on D Whistle

Music and Tabs (Play along with Scott)

In this video I introduce the hornpipe, The Harvest Home. This is also called the Cincinnati hornpipe, the Cork hornpipe, and some other names.

I selected this hornpipe for a couple reasons. First, it’s very fun to play. Second, this hornpipe is almost like a fun scale exercise disguised as a tune. I hope you are taking advantage of the scale exercises I provide.

If you are a beginner this tune might feel like quite a challenge. That’s OK. No one says you have to play it fast while you learn it. This tune is a brilliant one to play to help us develop our skills. Play it as slowly as you need to play it well.

I play through both the A and B parts slowly so you can learn them, and the entire tune including repeats. We talk about any challenges I think you may experience as well as any history we may know of this tune.
