The Butterfly (Slip Jig)

Music and Tabs (Play along with Scott)

In today’s video we learn the Slip Jig “The Butterfly.”

The tune was written by Tommy Potts. He started off with the old Slip Jig, Skin the Peeler.

The tune has a great feel to it. It is in 9/8 time, which means it includes 9 beats to a measure. Each measure has three sets of triplets. The tune follows a lilting pattern, and you will move it along by emphasizing specific notes, like the first note of each measure.

This tune includes some challenges. You may have to work on the triplets, the timing, and the tune walks quite high into the second octave. But the tune is beautiful and fun.

I have segmented the YouTube video into chapters so you can jump to the play along with Scott section.
