Ornament: Cran

Hi, friends.

In our time together today I want to dig further into the Cut ornament.

We should expand the notes we use to execute a cut as we play our whistles. Try this exercise. Play a note, and then play a cut for that note using every note above the one you are playing. Notice the bit of an edge that this ornament brings. Notice also that whichever note you use the tone is very similar.

We recently introduced the Cran as an ornament. The Cran replaces the Roll when we are playing a sustained D and more than one D in sequence. The Cran is three cuts played in a row. The cuts should be different notes.

Doing this lets us know that each cut will have a slightly different sound and feel. Experiment with cuts, and feel free to use more notes to express this ornament.

In answer to the question, what note do I use when playing a cut I say, whichever one above the note you are playing that you want.
