Playing the Second Octave
Hi, friends.
Please check out the video linked to the right.
In this video we review how to play the second octave.
There are two keys to getting started playing the second octave, and these will continue to be important for us.
The first is adequate hole coverage. Inadequate hole coverage will derail our playing faster than most anything else. Focus on developing this skill as it is key to playing well.
Secondly, we need to experiment with and learn breath control. Playing our whistles well takes less breath than we imagine. I give a recommendation on how to learn how much breath is needed to jump from the first to the second octave. Blowing too hard will cause poor intonation as we play.
